Here's my art submission for a print-on-demand project being put together by my favorite gaming blogger, James Maliszewski of Grognardia. I'm really looking forward to this book, whether my art gets used or not (but I sure hope so)!
"Galdu Aurkitu is the petty god of all things mislaid and unexpectedly found. A relative of the gods of good and bad luck, Galdu Aurkitu appears in one of three forms: an elderly, forgetful man; a young woman with three walnut shells and a pea; and a helpful lad. When encountered, each represents an aspect of Galdu Aurkitu's role: forgetting where one put something; being sure something set aside was there just a moment ago; and suddenly finding in an unexpected place something thought lost."

Had a lovely time in Portland this weekend at the 8th annual Stumptown festival, newly-ensconsed in the Portland Convention Center. My, how our little con has grown! I'd say it's about the size of APE now but I'll need to look at some numbers - subjectively, I'd say it was bigger than last years' Stumptown, at least. I stayed pretty close to my booth, shilling for Seattle's "Bureau of Drawers", our little cartoon club. We had our anthology to promote, "Combo #1", a silkscreened box containing 18 mini-comics!
I didn't go to any panels or check things out as thoroughly as I should have, but I didn't get the sense, as I usually do, that there was a real "book of the con" that everyone had under their arm. Probably the closest thing would have been Nate Simpson's new "Nonplayer" but I think it was sold out before the show even started. Many books were tantalizingly close to publication but were no-shows for this con, chief of those probably being Craig Thompson's HABIBI. Also MIA were Vera Brosgol's ANYA'S GHOST, Jess Fink's CHESTER 5000 and WE CAN FIX IT, and Jon Lewis' new TRUE SWAMP collection. So, in a lot of ways the show was a big tease but still fun.
Day 2 of the show was slower but still well-attended. I cut out about an hour early to pick up some bacon maple bars at Voodoo Donuts before heading back to Seattle. I do want to get back to APE, MOCCA, SPX sometime but it's pretty nice to be just a few hours away from a great small-press convention where I also have a free place to stay!

Over at Something Awful they're having an "Erotic Monster Manual" contest and I just had to get in on that action. Here's my take on the Ettin, a giant, two-headed vaguely Orc-ish beastie. Of course I made mine a little cuter than that, inspired by the Amazon women from Futurama, with a nod towards that ubiquitous girls-making-out poster.

Here's Space Glider, known as Arcturus Rann in the comics. He was the leader of the Micronauts and kind of boring but he did have an interesting past, having been on a 1000-year voyage in suspended animation, and his destiny was kind of cool, as he turns out to be an incarnation of the mysterious Time Traveler (another toy from the Micronauts line).
Here's more about the original Micronauts toys, originally from Japan and called "Microman".

My new series, "Rojo", starts today, with new installments each week. Join me as I mangle/ignore the history of Mexico and the American Southwest and scramble for photoreferences. I hope to continue this for awhile but the format and presentation may change over time - I consider this a learning experience and a way to hone my skills but I hope you will find it entertaining and stick with me.
